On the 25th of September, 2020, The United Green Movement Party held a welcoming ceremony to usher in Hon. Jonathan Mueke as the new Co Secretary General of the party. Hon Mueke was welcomed by the Co Party leader, the Organizing Secretary, the Co Secretary General and other members of the National Executive Council.
“Today we start the journey with other progressive, energetic and like-minded Kenyans to bring the change we seek. Kenyans who strongly believe that with good governance and adherence to the rule of law, we can make life successful. Kenyans from all corners of this country united under one cause to build a successful country.
A country in which you have money in your pockets. A country in which social justice prevails. A green country in which we nature our environment so as to prolong our children’s existence.
From today I shall lead, with others, a political party that will deliver the values I have been advocating for all along. A political party that holds dearly Chapter 6 of our Constitution on Leadership & Integrity, a political party that will ensure all those who run for office on our ticket pass the CIC test – Credibility, Integrity & Competence and give Kenyans the best leaders to choose from.” -Jonathan Mueke.
The Co-SG Hon Zaja and the organizing secretary spoke on the importance of having a political party that stands for truth and justice and that stands its ground, obeys the Kenyan constitution, 2010 and respects the rule of law. They spoke passionately about the 2/3 gender rule and insisted that the president must heed the advice of the Chief Justice and dissolve Parliament.
The Co-Party leader, Hon. Agostinho Neto, welcomed Hon. Mueke to the party and responded to those that were misguided in thought and assumed that Mueke would join a different party affiliated with the so- called ‘big fish’. “Why should we follow them? What do they have that we do not have apart from them having stolen from the state? The only thing we’re doing is coming to you with clean hands and asking you to support us.”- Hon. Neto.
The Co-Party leader reiterated what the other speakers had spoken about and assured Kenyans that UGM is a party that is inclusive and that believes in the interests of the youth, women and marginalized communities etc.
Hon. Neto spoke on next steps that the party would undertake if the President, H. E. Uhuru Kenyatta fails to dissolve Parliament. “On the 13th Of October, we are sending an eviction notice to the house of parliament. As the UGM leadership, we are sending an eviction notice. If on the 13th the president chooses not to dissolve, we shall go and exercise sovereignty within the meaning of article 1 because we will be giving effect to article 261 (7) that parliament shall stand dissolved.” Hon. Agostinho Neto.
