The United Green Movement (UGM) Party today held a press conference at its headquarters following the June 25 memorial procession, reaffirming its commitment to justice, accountability, and economic liberation for Kenya’s youth.
Leading the address was UGM Presidential Flagbearer David Maraga, who was joined by Mama Rex Masai, the mother of the late Rex Masai, one of the young Kenyans killed during the anti-Finance Bill protests.
Speaking during the press conference, Maraga reiterated that the country cannot move forward without holding those responsible for the deaths and injuries suffered during the demonstrations to account. He called on the Government to uphold the rule of law, respect constitutional freedoms, and ensure justice for all victims and their families.
The UGM Young Aspirants League later presented a petition to Parliament, received by the Hon. Dr. Wilberforce Oundo, MP Funyula, seeking urgent action to address the country’s youth unemployment crisis. The petition proposes the inclusion of a supplementary Ukombozi Budget within the FY 2026/27 financial year to create employment opportunities for the more than three million young Kenyans who are currently unemployed.
According to the petition, the proposed intervention would prioritise programmes that can begin creating jobs from 1 July 2026, offering practical pathways to employment while restoring hope to a generation facing growing economic hardship. 
UGM maintained that remembering those who lost their lives must go beyond annual commemorations. The party argued that honouring their sacrifice requires bold policy decisions that protect democratic freedoms, strengthen accountability, and tackle the economic challenges that continue to affect millions of young people.
The June 25 memorial stands as a reminder of both the cost of defending democracy and the responsibility of leaders to build a Kenya where every young person has the opportunity to live, work, and thrive with dignity.
