As part of its ongoing commitment to engaging Kenyans abroad, the UGM Party recently held diaspora outreach events in Sweden and the Netherlands, focusing on the critical intersections of climate change, human rights, and governance. These engagements underscored the party’s dedication to fostering meaningful conversations with Kenyans in the diaspora, who are often keen on how they can contribute to sustainable development and democratic governance back home.
In Sweden, UGM Party representatives Hon. Neto Agostinho, Hon. Sialo Tasur, Mr. Kevin
Odumbe, and Ms. Lilian Lingai participated in a roundtable discussion on human rights and climate change at Lund University. This event brought together key stakeholders to discuss the intersection of environmental sustainability and human rights.
Among the participants was Therese Nasman, Secretary General
of the Green Forum Sweden, an affiliate of the Green Party of Sweden, which supports Green political movements in accelerating the transition to sustainable democratic societies. Discussions revolved around the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable communities and the need for inclusive policies that protect both the environment and human rights.
This engagement reaffirmed UGM’s commitment to global collaboration in addressing climate justice and human rights challenges, highlighting the vital role of policy reforms in ensuring a sustainable and just future for all.
In The Hague, Netherlands, the UGM Party convened a similar roundtable discussion on
climate change and human rights, bringing together Kenyans living in the Netherlands for an insightful exchange of ideas. The session featured Hon. Neto Agostinho, Hon. Sialo Tasur, Ms. Lilian Lingai, Mr. Kevin Odumbe, og UGM Party and various professionals including Dr. Otieno Ong’ayo, Ms. Wnaja Nyaga, Mr. Oyunga Pala and Mr. Sumeet Pawaar, who led discussions on the far-reaching effects of environmental degradation on marginalized communities and the role of governance in driving climate action.
Participants engaged in thought-provoking conversations about policy reforms, social justice, and
the role of the diaspora in advocating for a better, greener Kenya. The event emphasized the need for stronger youth participation in governance and environmental advocacy, highlighting how diaspora voices can help shape policies that promote climate resilience and equity.
Following the roundtable, attendees gathered for a luncheon and networking session, where they exchanged ideas on contributing to Kenya’s development from abroad. Conversations centred around climate justice, policy reforms, and how the diaspora can influence governance back home.
The UGM Party Kenya diaspora outreach signifies the urgency of treating climate change as a human rights issue. UGM Party remains committed to advocating for policies that prioritize environmental sustainability and social justice.
