The UGM Party has today officially welcomed Hon. David Maraga as a Founder Member and pre-selected him as the Party’s Presidential Flag Bearer for the 2027 General Elections, pending approval by the National Delegates Conference to be held in early 2027.

The Greens are proud to present to Kenyans a presidential candidate whose principles resonate deeply with the UGM Party’s vision ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

In his maiden speech, Hon. Maraga reflected on the journey leading to this moment. He shared that since declaring his intention to run for president, many Kenyans have urged him to identify with a political party. However, he noted that finding one that truly aligns with his values and ideology has not been easy. “UGM is one of the very few political parties in Kenya that stands for constitutionalism and the rule of law,” he affirmed.

These values are central to the UGM Party manifesto, which rests on five strong pillars: Tackling Youth Unemployment, Strengthening the Economy, Promoting Environmental Sustainability, Upholding the Rule of Law and Constitutionalism, and Advancing Social Justice and Equality.

The unveiling ceremony brought together UGM leaders from across the country, a powerful symbol of unity and national representation. Among those present were Co-Party Leader Hon. Neto Agostinho, Hon. Bin Ali (Lamu), Hon. Kofa Komora (Tana River), Hon. Esther Ogweno (Homa Bay), Hon. Katto Wambu (Kitui), Hon. Kiangoi Ambasa (Nyamira), Hon. Sialo Tasur (Narok), Ms. Lilian Lingai & Hon. John Gachoka (Kiambu), Hon. Martin Kilili (Machakos), Hon. Binuamin Salat (Mandera), Hon. Onyango Odongo(Siaya) and Hon. Emma Wambui (Kirinyaga), alongside other senior party officials and delegates.

Hon. Maraga began his tenure as Presidential Flag Bearer by presiding over his first official duty, handing over nomination certificates to UGM candidates contesting in the upcoming by-elections. The nominees include Dr. Benson Obo Otieno, MP aspirant for Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County, and Mr. Odha Ilu Hiyesa, MCA aspirant for Chewani Ward, Tana River County. It was a symbolic start that underscored his commitment to grassroots leadership and the Party’s readiness to compete across the country.

This marks a new chapter for the Greens, one defined by integrity, unity, and a commitment to transforming Kenya’s political culture.

Welcome to the Greens, Hon. David Kenani Maraga. This is a new dawn.
