Law in the Wake of Climate Change
The UGM Party is pleased to host its third Greens Cocktail Event, themed “ Law in the Wake of Climate Change “. This event aims to engage stakeholders from Kenya’s legal industry to discuss climate change and the law. Our first two events were held on October 4th and 18th, 2024 under the themes: Climate Change & Health, and Climate Change and the Built Environment. The events foster collaboration and dialogue among professionals to address climate change with its various intersections.
Climate change is an urgent global issue with profound legal implications, making the intersection between climate change and the law a critical area of focus. The Kenyan legal fraternity plays a pivotal role in shaping national and international responses to climate change, providing the mechanisms for enforcing environmental regulations, setting standards for emissions, and holding entities accountable for environmental damage. The law facilitates the development of policies that promote sustainable practices, guide corporate responsibility, and protect vulnerable communities from the adverse effects of climate change.
This Greens Cocktail Event allows legal professionals and policymakers to meet and explore how existing and emerging legal tools can be leveraged to drive climate action, ensure compliance with environmental laws, and foster a culture of sustainability for Kenya. This discussion is essential for aligning law with the Climate Change phenomenon, ensuring that the legal sector contributes meaningfully to the fight against climate change.
With this event, the United Green Movement Party seeks to;
- Raise Awareness: Highlight the critical role of the law in addressing climate change, including the development and enforcement of environmental laws.
- Foster Collaboration: Create a platform for dialogue and networking among legal professionals, policymakers, and environmental advocates.
- Promote Solutions: Discuss innovative legal approaches and best practices for mitigating climate change through legal channels.
- Empower Legal Practitioners: Equip legal practitioners with the knowledge and tools needed to incorporate climate change considerations into their practice.
The event will bring together various key players in the legal industry. Participants will gain valuable insights into the evolving legal landscape in the wake of climate change. The event offers a unique opportunity to network with leading figures in the legal and environmental sectors, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how law can contribute to climate action, as well as actionable strategies for implementing climate-conscious legal frameworks.
