UGM Co-Party Leader and 2027 Presidential Flag Bearer Hon. David Maraga has given President William Ruto seven days to release and publish the complete and unedited report of the National Taskforce on Police Reforms.
The ultimatum comes amid renewed political violence across the country, including the recent violence witnessed in Homa Bay. Hon. Maraga says the incidents of organised political violence, goonism and partisan policing underscore the urgent need to restore the independence of the National Police Service.
The Taskforce, which Hon. Maraga chaired, submitted its report to President Ruto on 16 November 2023. Nearly three years later, its recommendations on police independence, brutality and impunity remain unimplemented.
Hon. Maraga has warned that if the report is not released within seven days, he will release it himself.
